My email from Borders had the subject line, “Give from the Heart with Gifts from Borders–Savings Inside”. Heart Filled Holidays is always ready for something that comes from the heart and, with Valentine’s Day being right around the corner, I’m doubly interested. So, I clicked.
I have to admit I didn’t expect to see anything extraordinary. And the email essentially had what you’d expect, ads for various books; love stories, relationship books, books with love in the title, etc. It highlighted chocolate treats and flowers. There was a fun surprise at the bottom of the page which advertised their Silverlicious Celebration, crafts and games for little girls.
But as I scanned the book titles I realized that you can give an extremely thoughtful gift by focusing on love. Oh, I don’t mean focusing on the word love, but rather on something the recipient would love. The key is to think like them, think about what they would be thrilled to receive; not the book we think they need, not a book that will “fix them”, but something they will adore.
It can be fun or silly. It can be touching or tearful. It can be interesting or factual. It can be anything at all, just choose it with love.
