I was reading an article in the local paper about the impact of small changes. While they were talking about the environment it got me to thinking about our own environment. Think about this for a minute; if you come home from work and the house is trashed, the laundry is piled to the ceiling and there isn’t anything to eat, how do you feel? If you come home from work to a tidy house and a hot meal, how do you feel?

Finding Happiness in Life ~ To Sing or Not to Sing

I commented on one of Cindy Ashton’s posts on FB the other day where she made the comment that anyone could sing. I made a joke about how anyone might be able to sing but that doesn’t mean people will listen, and certainly not to me. I was being funny and poking at my singing ability but she had an interesting response.
How a muffin can help solve holiday overwhelm

Yesterday morning I was going through my usual routine; I worked a while then had breakfast with my kids and got ready for the day. I decided to work out of the house and went up to Panera. A smoothie sounded really good and, since I was getting something anyway, I decided to get a pumpkin muffin (I just love those things!). I sat in my booth and ate my food while doing a bit of work. By the time I was done I realized I had just consumed over 800 calories when I wasn’t even hungry! I took a perfectly happy body, over-filled the stomach and added a lot of unnecessary calories that made me feel yucky.

Big holidays are coming! I was tweaking this week’s Heart Filled Holidays Tip Sheet and wrote in Halloween as the next big holiday. Personally I’m just not ready for to deal with Halloween and Thanksgiving yet. And we all know that the day after Thanksgiving starts the mad rush to Christmas but we won’t even go there yet.
Are you joking?

Have you guys been taking advantage of the fun and silly holidays? Have you used them to create more fun or more meaning in your life? Trust me, being silly and having fun is so worth the time. I know you’re busy. I know you have 1000 things to do today and a real holiday or celebration to prepare for. But what is all of that work for anyway? Isn’t it so that you can enjoy your life and help others do the same?
Level off that scoop of dog food!

When I took our dog to the vet for his spring check up a couple of months ago he was a bit heavier than we like him to be. Of course, we wanted him to lose some weight, but we didn’t want to do anything drastic, so we started talking about the exercise he got and what he was eating. During that conversation we discovered that mom was feeding him level scoops of food and everyone else was letting it mound over the top of the scoop. So we decided to simply level the scoops again and also to recommit to his daily trail walks/runs.

Thursday is Kite Day. This is, once again, one of those holidays you can just have some fun with. You can fly kites, make a kite, or learn about kites. You can do something by yourself or with someone else. Anything that would bring a little happiness into your life is fair game. And for our homeschooling moms, you can even have a little science lesson on how a kite works. Here are some ideas to check out:

As I chuckled my way through ‘Confessions of a Packaholic’ it reminded me of a trip Tom & I took to England. We were living in Germany at the time and our first child was only 7 months old. We decided to spend 2 1/2 weeks touring England and Scotland.
The most important woman in your life

March is International Women’s Month which is celebrated more in the U.K. and Canada than it is in the U.S. so many of us aren’t even aware that it’s happening.
While many people will be taking a historical view and celebrating the great women in history who have contributed so much to our world, I encourage you to take a celebratory view. It’s the perfect time to celebrate the women in your life, starting with yourself.
What’s your purpose?

My friend Amy had this post on FB “Bringing your 4-year-old on his scooter along on a power walk tends to take the “power” out of it.” She hit the nail on the head too. When we try to multi-task it doesn’t always work. Things like power walking and bringing the 4-year-old don’t work. My husband has the same problem when he runs and brings the dog – it just isn’t the same workout.
The same is true when we are planning our special celebrations.
