With Paczki Day coming up next Tuesday I’ve been thinking fondly of all the years that my family and I feasted on these yummy Polish treats. Every year my dad would bring some home and we would all dive in, fruit filling dripping down our chins. When I was older I wanted to share the joy of eating Paczki with my co-workers so my mom and I would get up at 3 a.m., drive down to Hamtramck and wait in line to get our share of those amazing pockets of yumminess.

One of the great things about celebrations and special occasions is going back and reliving the best moments. Most of us use photographs to document these occasions, but how often do you actually get them into a frame or an album so you can enjoy your pictures and relive your memories?
If you’re like me you’ve pulled out the boxes of photos from many years ago and started sorting them only to get stuck trying to figure out the date things happened or to get caught up in reminiscing, and you only get through about 20 pictures.

October is Family History Month and it gives us an incredible opportunity to share family stories, passing them down from generation to generation so we can preserve family history. It’s a great time to sit down with your parents or your grandparents and ask them questions about their life; and if you have kids be sure to bring them along for this. As you begin to uncover stories and details you’ll find yourself pulled into the past and possibly discovering a person you never knew or a time you’ve only read about in books.
Here are a few questions to get the wheels turning and the conversation going.

He has fond memories of spending time with his family and enjoying their company while pigging out on pizza.

I was thinking about past celebrations with my family. On the 8-22-11 radio show I shared the story of one of my birthday celebrations. My absolute favorite part of that day was watching my husband and girls frost my birthday cake. They were so adorable and having so much fun. It was absolutely priceless. The greatest gifts are the simple pleasures.

Today is National Lollipop Day. The website I saw that on, www.punchbowl.com, had a picture of those wonderful huge swirly lollipops we used to get when I was a kid. The moment I saw the picture it brought back a flood of memories; family vacations, times with cousins and the lovely days of childhood summers.
