You may have heard me talk about my new goal for this holiday season. Actually I have a couple and they both came from interviews I’ve done with some fabulous ladies. The one I’m sharing here has to do with shopping for Christmas presents and it was inspired by my October 10th Heart Filled Holidays radio show where I interviewed Lane Jordan about her forthcoming book 12 Steps to a More Organized Christmas and Holiday Season. During the interview Lane said that she tries to get all of her Christmas chores done before Thanksgiving, leaving more time in the month of December to do meaningful activities.

I was thinking about past celebrations with my family. On the 8-22-11 radio show I shared the story of one of my birthday celebrations. My absolute favorite part of that day was watching my husband and girls frost my birthday cake. They were so adorable and having so much fun. It was absolutely priceless. The greatest gifts are the simple pleasures.

Today is National Lollipop Day. The website I saw that on, www.punchbowl.com, had a picture of those wonderful huge swirly lollipops we used to get when I was a kid. The moment I saw the picture it brought back a flood of memories; family vacations, times with cousins and the lovely days of childhood summers.

Yesterday I ran my first 5k race. My daughter had signed up for Girls on Track which is a program for middle school girls (Girls on the Run is the elementary school version) that is designed to get them running while building self-esteem and hopefully begin a love of activity.
The girls have been training and doing other fun activities and it all culminated in a 5k run. We were supposed to arrive at the race by 5:00 with opening ceremonies at 6:00 and the race starting at 6:30. The only problem was that it was about 45 degrees and raining.

As I was opening a new box of tea bags I thought how cool it would be to grow a tea garden – tending plants which you could later use to create your own tea. Then I realized that I don’t like to garden. So why would I think growing my own tea would be fun?

When I was growing up we spent two weeks every summer at a local campground resort where we met up with my grandparents and our cousins. It was absolutely fantastic and something we always looked forward to.
Now, with kids of my own, I continue a similar tradition where Tom, the girls and I meet up with my brother and his family at a favorite campground. Sometimes other families join in and sometimes it’s just us.
