I was sitting here working like crazy and feeling a little blah. I ignored the feeling and kept on going, after all today is a very busy day and I must get everything on my to-do list done (and hopefully a little bit more). After a while the blah feeling started to become oppressive so I finally stopped long enough to pick my head up and look around. As I looked around my office I noticed a little light peeking in around the curtains and I started to wonder what the weather was like outside.

You may have heard me talk about my new goal for this holiday season. Actually I have a couple and they both came from interviews I’ve done with some fabulous ladies. The one I’m sharing here has to do with shopping for Christmas presents and it was inspired by my October 10th Heart Filled Holidays radio show where I interviewed Lane Jordan about her forthcoming book 12 Steps to a More Organized Christmas and Holiday Season. During the interview Lane said that she tries to get all of her Christmas chores done before Thanksgiving, leaving more time in the month of December to do meaningful activities.

Yesterday morning I was going through my usual routine; I worked a while then had breakfast with my kids and got ready for the day. I decided to work out of the house and went up to Panera. A smoothie sounded really good and, since I was getting something anyway, I decided to get a pumpkin muffin (I just love those things!). I sat in my booth and ate my food while doing a bit of work. By the time I was done I realized I had just consumed over 800 calories when I wasn’t even hungry! I took a perfectly happy body, over-filled the stomach and added a lot of unnecessary calories that made me feel yucky.

You guys know I’m an advocate of planning ahead and taking care of things when a quick and easy opportunity to do so arises. So when I went into Walgreen’s yesterday morning you would think that I would have bought my Halloween candy. (Yes, they have Halloween candy out already and so do other stores.)

Big holidays are coming! I was tweaking this week’s Heart Filled Holidays Tip Sheet and wrote in Halloween as the next big holiday. Personally I’m just not ready for to deal with Halloween and Thanksgiving yet. And we all know that the day after Thanksgiving starts the mad rush to Christmas but we won’t even go there yet.

I was recently asked to write a guest blog post for Kathleen Ellis’ Lifestyle Design blog. Kathleen has a beautiful spirit and wonderful tips for making our lives and our holidays simply beautiful inside and out so I was thrilled when she asked me to share some thoughts with her readers. I’d like to pass on those ideas to you as well

A mom’s life is wonderful and full, sometimes too full. Sometimes we find that our to-do list and our commitments are outstripping our energy or just taking more hours than we have in the day. We often notice this when holidays or special events pop up because there just isn’t any room left to make them happen much less enjoy them. Well, the good news is that there are things you can do and I’ve posted an article that can help over on Bizymoms so pop on over and read it here (click through to the blog for the live link).

Today, Saturday, June 25th, is Leon Day. Leon is Noel spelled backwards and this day marks the half-way point from one Christmas to the next. Yes, we are half-way to Christmas. And many of you aren’t ready to think about it yet. Well, I just have one question for you: “Did you love your Christmas holiday season last year?”

When I took our dog to the vet for his spring check up a couple of months ago he was a bit heavier than we like him to be. Of course, we wanted him to lose some weight, but we didn’t want to do anything drastic, so we started talking about the exercise he got and what he was eating. During that conversation we discovered that mom was feeding him level scoops of food and everyone else was letting it mound over the top of the scoop. So we decided to simply level the scoops again and also to recommit to his daily trail walks/runs.

I was looking at gas prices today and noticed myself getting excited about gas being $4.00/gallon. I never would have expected to have that feeling and it was actually a little shocking. But it was a great reminder that “it’s all about expectations”. After seeing gas at $4.50, and expecting it to go up from there during the summer, suddenly $4 sounds pretty good.
